The Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of its Small Business Awards.

From dozens of finalists, the winners for the 24th annual nomination-based award were scheduled to be given out during a reception at WorkPlay May 8. With the theme "Small Business ROCKS!," it was held as a part of national Small Business Week.

The winners are:

Small Business Person of the Year (1-9 employees): Deborah Lechner of ErgoScience Inc.
Small Business Person of the Year (10-25 employees), Hal Shepherd of The Kennion Group Inc.
Small Business Person(s) of the Year (26-75 employees): Geoff Clever, Neil Davis, Julee Potter of Davis Architects Inc.
Small Business Person of the Year (76-500 employees): Dr. Bruce Irwin of American Family Care Inc.
Small Business Advocate of the Year Award: Jairo Vargas, Latino News LLC.
Jesse J. Lewis Jr. Community Service Award: Ken Jackson, Dudley C. Jackson Inc.
Centennial Award: Commercial Printing Co. and J.H. Berry & Gilbert Inc.
In the first year to honor nonprofits, the Nonprofit of the Year Award went to United Way of Central Alabama Inc.
