The Bottom Line: Hal Shepherd On Health Care
This week’s question:
What provision or provisions of the recently passed health care reform bill will have the most significant impact on small businesses and what type of impact will they have?
“Rapidly rising health care costs and an aging population will sharply increase spending on health care. The health bill had no impact on run-away health care costs. The elimination of pre-existing conditions will allow people to abuse the system by only buying (and thus paying into the system) insurance when they are sick and need it. This kind of anti-selection abuse is a death sentence for any actuarial insurance system. Costs will go up and private insurance may be killed.”
